Abdo Nahmod Under Fire From Medics ; Quick, Somebody Call 911

City medics are demanding the resignation of EMS boss Abdo Nahmod, claiming he mismanaged the response to Superstorm Sandy, reported The New York Post (via Firehouse.com).

First responders say medical care devolved into chaos as the hurricane’s floodwaters swamped EMS stations and paralyzed ambulances — sometimes stranding medics on their roofs — all because the FDNY failed to follow its own hurricane plan.

Beth Israel Hospital Ambulance Stuck In Traffic

After St. Vincent's Hospital was closed so that it could become a billion-dollar luxury condominium and townhouse complex for the wealthy Rudin Family, many of the remaining hospitals in Manhattan are having to travel longer distances to respond to medical emergencies. In this video, there is a Beth Israel Hospital ambulance stuck in traffic right in front of the closed St. Vincent's Hospital. These ambulances then have the make the same long distance back to their originating hospital, to transport medical patients back to an emergency room or a trauma center. At stake are the life and well-being of medical patients, who have to risk their lives in order to wait until they receive critical medical treatment. There can be no "moving on" until a full-service hospital and trauma center replaces St. Vincent's Hospital.

Sept. 11 Hero Richard Sheirer Dies

"Mr. Sheirer was driving to work from his home on Staten Island when he began having chest pains, pulled over at 14th Street and 10th Avenue and called 911. He was taken to Beth Israel Hospital, where he died," reported The New York Times.

Luxury Condos Won't Save Lives

The Rudin Luxury Condos won't save lives. Likewise, a new parking garage won't treat heart attacks.

One of the participants at last night's "mass civilian trauma exercise" at St. Vincent' Hospital asked, "Where is Christine Quinn ?"

As part of the "mass civilian trauma exercise," many participants wore surgical masks and paper signs around their neck. The signs indicated what accidents, diseases, or emergencies they "have." Then, the "sick" participants "waited" for emergency medical treatment on the sidewalks outside St. Vincent's. No emergency help ever came, precisely because there is no longer a hospital in the Lower West Side. Some participants did not "make it." After the "mass civilian trauma exercise" came to an end, team of "survivors" marched to Grace Church, 86 Fourth Avenue, Tuttle Hall, to ask for help from Jason Mansfield, the chair of CB2's Environmental, Public Safety & Public Health Committee.
