Senator Shirley Huntley Marched in Selma and Didn't Learn a Thing : Epic YouTube Video of Daring Protest in Jamaica, Queens, in Support of Marriage Equality

At noon on Wednesday, LGBTQ activists demonstrated in front and visited the office of Queens Senator Shirley Huntely in Jamaica Queens calling upon her to be a champion for full civil rights, including marriage equality for LGBTQ Americans.

Protesters handed out a scathing flyer, calling Sen. Huntley, ''Dreamless,'' and unfurled a 20' banner that stated, "Sen. Shirley Huntley Marched in Selma and Didn't Learn a Thing," while blaring the Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.'s "I Have a Dream" speech, giving her a much needed wake-up call.

In 2009, Senator Huntely voted "No" on the marriage equality bill, which would grant same-sex couples the same 1,324 legal protections that opposite-sex couples already have. When asked the reason for her vote, she explained that she was speaking on behalf of her constituency in district 10.

Mayor Bloomberg's Gay Marriage Closet Secret

Mayor Bloomberg brings unwrapped toys, bad jokes, and untruths to noble annual gay party to benefit poor children during the holiday season.

Last week-end, Mayor Michael Bloomberg showed up to a gay holiday party at Chelsea Piers organised and hosted by Robby Browne, David Tufts, and Chris Kann. Mayor Bloomberg donated several gay-themed toys to the charitable event.

"You should see what's in my closet," the mayor said, according to The New York Daily News.

Besides bringing toys and making jokes, the mayor told a glaring lie to the crowd, which The Daily News estimated to be over 2,500 people, mostly gay men. Here is what was reported :

''It wasn't all fun and games for the billionaire : He did take a moment to restate that he hopes to one day live in a city where marriage equality exists for everyone, causing the biggest uproar of clapping and yelling from the male-mob, among shouts of 'Bloomberg for President.' ''

All the festive celebrations are causing some reporters (like Brian Moylan) to forget, and some people (like Mayor Bloomberg) to lie about, the secret that Mayor Bloomberg would like to keep hidden in his gay marriage closet : the fact that in 2005 Mayor Bloomberg ordered lawyers for New York City to appeal the trial court ruling issued by New York Supreme Court Judge Doris Ling-Cohen, who decided that marrying the person of one's own choosing was both a privacy right and a liberty right.

Just a friendly reminder, based on facts, that despite Mayor Michael Bloomberg's march with the Log Cabin Republicans in this year's Gay Pride Parade, the legal debate over the constitutionality of same-sex marriages in New York came to an early abortion after Mayor Bloomberg appealed Judge Doris Ling-Cohan's 2005 trial court ruling in which she found that the right to marry the person of one's choosing is both a privacy right and a liberty right.

If Mayor Bloomberg cared about equality, then he would be taking action to create equality, instead of just showing up for photo opportunities with the farce of a group called Log Cabin Republicans. Mr. Mayor, what is your record on equality ?

This morning, the e-mail message I received in my inbox said that voters in New York City are going to "make compromises," thereby creating a justification in their minds that it is O.K. "enough" to re-elect a failed mayor to an ill-fated and controversial third term, even after we know that in 2005 Mayor Bloomberg appealed New York Supreme Court Judge Doris Ling-Cohan's ruling that would have paved the way for same-sex marriage.
